Our Global Environmental Opportunities strategy seeks capital growth by investing in companies that are active along the environmental value chain. Hannover Messe highlighted a number of drivers that support demand for innovative solutions in several environmental themes such resource efficiency and circular economy across the industrial sector.

Although it may not be immediately intuitive to the outside observer, industry and sustainability are intricately linked – as we saw at Hannover Messe. This is partly due to regulation and to increased public concern about the environment, but sustainability is also very much in the interest of the companies themselves, predominantly due to the potential cost savings and operational efficiencies achieved, as well as due to the need to future proof their business models against challenges such as resource scarcity and increased frequency of extreme weather events. We are seeing strong and growing demand for solutions which enable the efficient use of resources and embrace circular economy in areas such as in-house recycling and efficient water management.

Meanwhile, solutions for energy efficiency and clean power infrastructure are becoming ever more urgent as global energy needs grow due to electrification (from cars to heating systems), increased electricity demand from data and AI, and the reshoring of manufacturing. That is driving demand for renewable energy and for modern, efficient power infrastructure. As heavy users of power and electricity, industries and manufacturers are embracing the need for better power management and energy efficiency solutions. We believe microgrids could be part of the answer, reducing reliance on the broader electricity network. Our investment team is always looking for new trends and opportunities in the environmentalspace – including paying close attention to changing trends in industry.
